Villupuram, Tamil Nadu – In a decisive step toward realizing the original vision of The Mother, the Auroville Foundation convened a strategic planning meeting on Monday evening to chart the township’s future trajectory. Held at the Auroville Foundation Office, the session centered on sustainable expansion, infrastructure development, and enhanced community integration.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Jayanti S. Ravi, IAS, Secretary of the Auroville Foundation and Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat. Key participants included Dr. G. Seetharaman, Officer on Special Duty, Auroville Foundation; Saravanan P, Superintendent of Police, Villupuram; Uma Devi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kottakuppam; and Balasubramanian, Security Officer of Auroville Foundation.
A cornerstone of the discussions was the ambitious plan to scale Auroville’s population to 50,000, in alignment with the city’s founding ethos as envisioned by The Mother. The meeting emphasized that this growth would be achieved without compromising Auroville’s core spiritual character.
“The goal is to blend ecological sustainability with visionary urban planning, ensuring that Auroville remains a model of conscious living and holistic development,” the official statement from the Foundation read.
Dr. Ravi’s extensive administrative experience from Gujarat is set to play a pivotal role in shaping Auroville’s next phase of development. The session also addressed measures for ensuring community safety and security as the township undergoes this transformative growth.
With ecological principles, spiritual grounding, and inclusive planning at the forefront, Auroville’s strategic roadmap aims to set a precedent for sustainable urban expansion rooted in human unity and collective progress.
