Auroville Foundation and CDAC Sign MoU for Mutual Collaboration

Puducherry – April 5, 2025:

In a significant step toward integrating technology with sustainable living, the Auroville Foundation and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on projects that combine cultural values with digital transformation.

A high-level CDAC delegation visited Auroville on March 28 and 29, engaging in detailed discussions on mutual areas of interest. The agreement lays the foundation for implementing smart metering, data collection systems, and RFID solutions for electric vehicles — designed to make Auroville a model for a smart, self-sufficient community.

“These projects mark the first step toward transforming Auroville into a ‘smart’ and efficiently-managed community,” the Foundation stated.

Key Areas of Collaboration:

  1. Smart Utilities Management: Pilot projects involving 100 water and energy meters will be deployed across Auroville to monitor and optimize consumption.
  2. Digital Heritage & AI: Joint initiatives will explore AI-driven cultural preservation, language computing, and digital storytelling.
  3. Sustainable Technology: Projects will be executed in coordination with Auroville’s Electrical Service, Water Service, and Aurinoco.

If the pilot yields successful outcomes, the implementation will be scaled up across other Auroville units.

Key Officials Present:

  1. Dr. Jayanthi S. Ravi, Secretary, Auroville Foundation
  2. G. Seetharaman, Officer on Special Duty, Auroville Foundation
  3. S. D. Sudarsan, Executive Director, CDAC
  4. Magesh Ethirajan, Director General, CDAC

This partnership showcases Auroville’s evolving role as a hub for experimental living and technological innovation that respects ecological balance, cultural integrity, and future-focused solutions.
